What's Open (and Closed) for Independence Day 2023 on July 4th

Independence Day will be observed by Americans all around the nation with barbecues, fireworks, and – for many – a day off from work.

The Fourth of July commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, which is considered the beginning of American independence.

Since July 4 is a Federal Reserve holiday, the majority of bank locations nationwide will be closed. The New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq will both be closed on this day.

On Tuesday, there will be no mail delivery and the US Postal Service will be closed.

Regular FedEx services won't be available. However, both FedEx Custom Critical and FedEx Office will be open with adjusted hours.

All United Postal Service operations—aside than UPS Express Critical—will be suspended.

Non-essential government offices, such as the DMV and public libraries, will be closed on Tuesday.
