Twitter is debating legal action against Meta over Threads, a competing software that is quickly gaining popularity.

Meta executives have positioned Threads, which was introduced to millions of users on Wednesday, as a "friendly" substitute for Twitter.

Elon Musk, CEO of Twitter, remarked, "Competition is fine, cheating is not," but Meta refuted allegations in a legal letter that ex-Twitter employees were involved in the creation of Threads.

According to Meta, more than 70 million individuals have downloaded the new app.

Though Twitter created its userbase from scratch, Threads was able to tap into the pre-existing two billion monthly users Meta claims Instagram has. It took Twitter four years to build the same number of users that Threads obtained in a day.
